Review on Wintact Handheld Anemometer Water Resistant, Small Digital Wind Speed Meter Gauge, Pocket Air Flow Tester With Measuring Wind Temperature 14℉ To 113℉ For House HVAC Outdoor Kite Boat Sailing Surfing by Jason Flores

Accurate and super easy to use. Also durable.

I got this Wintact Handheld Anemometer because I fly multiple drones regularly that are significantly affected by wind. I needed a more exact way to measure the wind speed to determine if I had the necessary speed and power to fly upwind, whether on the way out or back in.This anemometer is consistent and accurate, allowing me to observe wind speeds over time (long enough to know what steady winds vs. gusts were like). After I started using it, it quickly became apparent that judging wind speed by how it "feels" is not accurate enough to fly drones. Several times, I was surprised by the reading from the anemometer, and then tested flying with a drone I knew to confirm the reading was accurate. I am good at telling if the wind is below 20 mpg. That said, telling the difference between 30 and 45 can be much more challenging, especially if things are gusty. This device lets me fly in more weather conditions, knowing what the winds are like compared to the performance of various drones. I now know when it's safe to fly. I build in safety margins, but this provides a lot of freedom and saves me from potentially costly mistakes. The anemometer responds very quickly to changes in wind speed, which is key to flying safely. If it is gusty, but the average speed is still low enough, I was able to take off, buzz around safely, and then land without issue. It provides both security and freedom at the same time. I tested its accuracy with my car, holding it out the window on a monopod. It was solid.I'm super glad to have this anemometer to help protect my equipment and ensure everything is safely within limits. I've found several other uses for it, but I mostly use it for flying. It also survived an accidental 4' drop test without issues. It was still accurate.ProsThe display is backlit, which is nice for dark areas or at night. It seems accurate, even with wind speeds in the single digits. The auto-off feature is a real battery saver!Extremely small and compact. It easily fits in my go bag.The fan is easily removable (toolless) if needed.Uses a standard battery that is easy to get almost anywhere. The thermometer was slow to respond/change but was accurate.

Pros
  • MULTIFUNCTION: It comes with the data hold function and high precision pressure sensor. It can give the current, maximum, average wind speed reading with a bright and clear LCD backlight display screen, a low battery indicator, auto-off, and an anti-skid and anti-fall rubber protective jacket.
Cons
  • The anemometer's temperature reading is not accurate
