They are designed to fit on the grill of your van cooler and they go very well with our Dometic. The mount is fairly flat, but you'll need a wire frame to mount it. They're easily adjustable with a wing nut at the top of each brace, and the bottom of the fastener has ribbed slots of varying widths, making it easy to find a snug fit on any shelf. The strut itself seems very strong, and I can't imagine that even a full gallon of milk or water could damage it, even on a rough road, although I suspect that can happen with age and rough use. With "normal" use, I never see this as a problem.
