Review on Ekena Millwork LL1S12X03100BL Lifetime Standard by Justin Newport

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No internal structural frame!

First, the product arrived on time. Arrived new and undamaged. So what are the reasons for my 3 star rating that you are probably thinking of? My 3 stars are for the actual product. I will explain. I bought a set as a test to replace the set in the back of my studio building - I want to replace all the blinds in this building BUT I will not be going ahead with this particular shade! When removing my old blinds on a test window, I noticed that the old set was attached with two small hinges each. I also realized that the existing old set included an internal wooden frame. This product (test set) does not contain an internal frame, so it is thin! I find blinds attractive. it's not bad. However, they must be drilled and screwed into ALL four corners of each roller shutter for installation. This roller shutter needs an inner frame! The inner frame prevents the blinds from becoming brittle and the frame allows for mounting with hinged brackets. If the inner frame was installed or attached to the blinds - A: it would stay flat and not bend/twist when being handled or installed which makes me doubt its durability. B: This would give it real support "structure" to attach the hinges to. C: This eliminates the need to drill holes in ALL four corners of each roller shutter AND the 4 screws on the front of each roller shutter are no longer visible after installation. D: You don't need to screw 4 screws in the outer panel for each sash, or only 8 holes in the panel per window. Who wants to see 4 screws on the front of every installed blind? Maybe some people don't mind looking at the surface hardware and drilling holes in the outer trim. ALL of these problems can be 100% eliminated by simply installing an inner frame. I'm glad I did the test and only bought one set! I'm also glad it's at the back of my studio overlooking the forest! I applied a bead of silicone sealant to each threaded hole a few seconds before installing the blinds to prevent future leakage from directed rain! I'm particularly concerned about the bottom screws on the screw. The top screws are somewhat protected by the roof overhang, but all 8 holes are pre-sealed. Would I buy again - NO! They are flimsy, constructed without an internal frame, and as a result installation requires 4 screws in the front of each shutter AND 8 holes in the panel surrounding each window o_0
