I hardwired the USB and 12v power adapter (cigarette lighter) to the handlebars. I've used USB for phone chargers, speakers, and fans (placed them behind an oil cooler so I wouldn't overheat when stuck in traffic). In a couple of years it rusted (I ride in the Northeast in all weathers: heat, rain, snow) and I had to rip it all out. I figured the next PSUs would be SAE style so I could add, move or remove them fairly easily. I hooked up a wire to my fuse box and got the SAE under the front of my tank, just behind the steering column. I then added two SAE Y splitters to get 3 SAE wires from a fuse, with an adapter on each handlebar (one for cell phone, one for speakers) and one for my under dash radiator fan. I can remove, move or reconfigure them and never have to go to the fuse box again. I am very happy with it. I've been outside in the rain a few times since installation and no problems. The SAE compounds are particularly good in terms of weather and moisture resistance (one of the reasons I chose them), I can't tell if they are any more resilient than other SAE compounds.
