Review on πŸ” Gosky 20-60x80 Dual Focusing ED Spotting Scope: Ultimate Optics for Shooting, Hunting, Bird Watching, Astronomy, and More! by Sean Huff

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great image for the price

So I bought the Gosky 20-60x80 and the Vortex Diamondback 20-60x85 with the intention of doing a comparison and getting the best performance. Assuming you're waiting for the price drops that sometimes happen here at Revain, you can get Gosky for $200 less than Diamondback. In short, the Gosky has a significantly better image than the more expensive Vortex, but the Vortex is better built/ergonomic. I saved Gosky. The longer version is that Gosky has ED glass and the difference in chromatic aberration (CA) is significant. Vortex has a significant CA or "purple band" and this is very noticeable on thin objects like tree branches, while the Gosky has almost zero CA. they side by side on tripods, looking at license plates from 200 meters away, trees with birds in them, etc. I will say that I don't like Gosky's two-speed focus as much as the single-speed Vortex. . The Vortex was easier to focus on, while even the "slow" Gosky was more picky/sensitive. Both scopes have an extremely shallow depth of field, so that's a definite plus for the Vortex. For my use, where I'm focusing on stationary targets where I have plenty of time to adjust the focuser, it's not a big deal. Both scopes have a ring that allows you to rotate the scope's eyepiece. Aiming, which is really nice, but only the Vortex has a dovetail-shaped Arca-Swiss QR plate for attaching to a camera tripod. Gosky has a standard 1/4" thread, so you'll need to provide your own QR plate. In terms of quality, the Vortex is a step up - Gosky's gray plastic body in particular seems cheaper and will of course break if it has one Has glass optics so hopefully don't use it as a baseball bat etc. The Vortex does appear to be a bit more premium though but it's not to be confused with a $1,000+ scope, came with a nice neoprene sleeve to protect it, while the gosky came with a cheap soft case which i think will protect it from scratches but nothing more both come with dust caps but only the vortex caps are caught this makes removing the dust caps easier, that come with the Gosky.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Broadly ok but...
