When I needed an exhaust pipe wrap for a diesel heater that we use in cold weather I took a page from my past racing days in the 60's. Back then, we wrapped our exhaust manifolds in exactly the same foil. It has stood the test of time over the years and still does today. In our case we use it to cover the open exhaust pipe coming from the diesel heater. This is what almost everyone who has these heaters uses. He does his job very well. What is it for? Well, if I've used it in the past, we've used it for a couple of very good reasons. Firstly to protect us and the environment when heat can harm people working on hot engines as well as objects nearby. Second, the exhaust sleeve really contributed to the engine's performance. It's still useful in modern cars. When using this product, make sure you know how to use it and what is required to ensure safety. Remember that it is made of fiberglass and we all know how annoying this material can be. Wear the gloves provided! Also use safety goggles as the film is a bit bulky when applying. I noticed that there are no instructions included with the kit. I would advise you to watch some online videos on how to use it. You need to soak this pack and then apply it. But beginning and end require special care. Some videos will help. Now, upon completion, it may be advisable to apply a spray sealer. If you come into contact with the foil, you should think about sealing it. Motorcycles and ATVs come to mind. Fiberglass can and will wear down and cause skin irritation if you come into contact with it. This is a fiberglass based product supplied in a sealed plastic bag. It is almost 33 feet long and 2 inches wide. By itself it is not very flexible, but after getting wet in water it becomes very flexible. The paint will bleed a little in the water, so use something you don't mind if it gets dirty. Once wet, it flips over to some extent and is difficult to handle. It is recommended to wear clothing that can be discarded if fibers get on it. The kit includes a dozen (12) stainless steel straps that hold the slide in place. After heating, the casing tends to shape and stay in place. If you rub against it, it may wear out a little. Not much can be said about its composition, but on the surface I would say that it works just as well today as the product I used many years ago.
