XVICO Multicolored PLA Filament. I wasn't expecting much from this Chinese thread. It's not that the Chinese threads were bad, I just didn't expect them to be great. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. Fast, I might add. Delivery almost a day. The box is nothing special, the usual brown cardboard with black lettering. Packed was good, but in a non-lockable box. A zipper would be nice, but doesn't bother. The first impression of the thread from the packaging was good. It felt nice, it wasn't fragile, it was a good thread. I started with a basic heat resistant PLA to get a feel for how hot this filament needs to be to print. My Prusa i3 Mk3s is stock except for the hardened steel nozzle. I used smooth PEI steel plate for all prints. My makeshift tower disagreed. The best results were obtained at temperatures between 220°C and 230°C. Actually it wasn't a problem. Hardened steel nozzles sometimes require a little more heat. All prints were made at 230°C at the nozzle and 60°C at the bed and at a layer height of 0.2mm. The thread is well printed. There were no problems with sticking to the bed. There can be no question of a real stretch. No drops. Flat prints only. A small stretch can be done with a quick shot of the heat gun or a quick glance with a flashlight. Nothing you don't see in a premium thread. However. It's not all sunshine. color change. I have a feeling if you buy multicolored yarn do so to get the color changing effect. When this thread changes color, it's a nice change. This is a gentle and gradual change. The effect is pleasant. The problem is that these changes are not happening fast enough. As you can see from the attached photos, most of my prints are monochrome. The ones that change just a little bit. So my only problem with this yarn is the slow color change. Overall this is a great filament to print with. This compares to Domestic and other Chinese Revain brands I've used. However, the lack of a resealable pouch and the slow pace of change prevent me from giving this 5 stars. If I could bet 4.5 I would. I have to be content with 4 stars.
