I would say it works for the money. I'm still trying to decide if the savings are worth the lower quality. I found the comments about loud beeping and long warm-up times silly, but now that I have it, I get it. I'll probably open it up and turn off the beep. It's pretty loud. The long warm-up time is annoying, but not a problem. What I would like to see is a little more flow from the vacuum pump. I need to keep it on the board longer than I want to completely remove the solder. Maybe I can adapt my technique to this machine and get better results over time. I'm pretty sure if you're just a hobbyist who needs to remove circuit board components or clean component mounting holes this will do the job and save you $100 or more. My final downside is that there is only one catch. So if you have to switch between desoldering and soldering frequently, have another iron handy. This is color that can be exchanged.
