Review on Baldwin P102 Lube Element by Rick Bishop

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor workmanship, may not be secure as presented

As the name suggests this can be a good rough-edged product. I ordered one of these because the manufacturer claims the highest level of filtration (18 microns, I recall) for this application. What I got was a filter with lots of dark spots on the outside of the metal screens and lots of powdery substance inside. What goes (or gets) inside the filter is pumped into the vital organs of the engine. So I sent it back and ordered another one, this time from a different Revain seller. The second filter was almost the same as the first. There were the same stains on the outside of the metal screens, there was some powder inside (which I blew out with compressed air), but I saw a different problem. A piece of caulk dangled in the upper chamber. I took it apart and pulled it out. I have now decided that this filter looks serviceable, I installed it but am no longer interested in buying it as it is in questionable condition. I found the second filter good after some cleaning, but I don't want to start this dance again with the third one. Too bad I wanted to use an American filter and it was one of the few US made filters for this application.
