Review on πŸ₯© Famili Digital Meat Thermometer: Accurate and Convenient Temperature Monitoring for Perfectly Cooked Meat by Paul Hubbard

Useful, reasonably priced

Can't comment on durability yet but it comes with a 1 year warranty which includes replacement of the probe if it fails. My oven had the temperature sensor replaced and since then it seems to be cooking differently. So I wanted to calibrate it. I tried using a dial thermometer but didn't trust it. I also tried the sugar melting point method. This indicated that the oven was nearby (better than a dial thermometer), but I could really only deduce the maximum temperature reached, so I bought these. I first tested the accuracy in boiling water. It took a while to read 212, but it did, so I knew it was accurate, at least in the midrange. With this thermometer I was able to see the temperature at which the oven was turned on and off to control the temperature. I was able to calibrate it so that the set temperature was about halfway between the two. I couldn't have done that with a dial thermometer, no matter how accurate it was, because it didn't react quickly enough. I also used it to check the temperature of our dehydrator (which turned out to be accurate). Now that all my calibrations are done, I can start using this thermometer to check the food I'm cooking! This should prove particularly useful on my Traeger as I haven't had much luck with instant read thermometers. By the way, it has magnets on the back that make it easy to attach it to the oven or grill while the probe is in. You can also set up an audible alarm when the temperature is reached. There's also a timer function, but you can't use it while you're using the probe as there's a switch that you can set to either timer or temperature. So far I am very happy with this purchase.
