Review on Stanley 84-102 8-Inch Long Nose Plier: Durable and Versatile Tool for Precision Work by James Julien

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I was impressed by how strong they seemed, but they rust very quickly.

I was impressed with their durability. For the price I thought they might appear cheap but they feel heavy. I wouldn't use them for heavy work, but they work fine for light to medium work. Update September 2016 - I used pliers and it was covered in rust. They were stored with some other 20 year old tongs that were not rusty but after 9 months this tong was covered with rust on about 20% of the surface. I carefully removed the rust with a rust remover and applied a rust preventative, but this was not necessary when the product is advertised as having "an anti-rust coating for added protection; I didn't need to". Double dip grip for extra comfort. Total failure at the end. They are made in China so I think the manufacturer skipped the last step to save money. For $5 I expect some shortcuts, but you should advise your customers to apply a rust preventive once a year.

Pros
  • High test scores for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
