The fire department tested my smoke alarms before they sold my house. They told me that it doesn't actually have a voice alarm and doesn't meet UL 217 standards. It may have been "designed to meet UL standards," but it's never actually been UL tested or approved. Pressing the test button does not activate the voice alarm, so he (the fire inspector) assumes there is no voice alarm. Avoid this, especially if you live in Massachusetts.
