Review on ๐ŸŽฎ ASUS ROG Rapture WiFi Gaming Router (GT-AC5300): Tri Band Gigabit Wireless, Quad-Core CPU, WTFast Game Accelerator & Lifetime Internet Security by Stephen Chowdary

Basically, do not buy a Rapture GT-AC5300 router

I rarely write reviews. but it is more of a WARNING or a buyer warning. Bottom line, the router worked flawlessly for 11 months, and then there were a lot of issues, which may or may not be related to the December 2018 firmware update. + drop in WLAN performance 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz; + Randomly turned on and off 2.4GHz WiFi band. + Most 2.4GHz devices (about 15) disconnected and some could never reconnect. + Cat5 ethernet ports started to fail (at least 2). + DHCP was unreliable and/or failed for several static IP devices. + Network mapping showed 30+ devices randomly connecting and disconnecting to WiFi and Cat5 connections. + etc. Did you understand. I did a full FACTORY RESET twice and reinstalled the firmware (latest and even older versions). Bad luck. Worst of all was the technical support from ASUS. Their submission process via chat, website and email is hopelessly broken - I would even say it's broken on purpose to prevent RMAs from being sent - that's a bold claim but that's my experience as I at least have it Tried 10 times to submit an RMA and/or check the status of an RMA that I believe has been received. If there is no other reason, stay away from ASUS on network devices. no matter how attractive the feature/functionality looks (and it's GOOD if it works). Well, unless a miracle happens this week. I'll ditch that high-end $375 router and go back to NetGear, LinkSys/Cisco, or maybe Synology. ASUS cannot be trusted when it comes to networking solutions - period. UPDATE 2/12/19 - I finally managed to get the ASUS call center (phone) to answer and provide an RMA number. The device will be sent to him for repair or replacement (24-month warranty); Let's see how it goes.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • High price
