I started drinking protein powder to get rid of my leaky gut. I've been doing research for over two years and now I feel pretty good about my health. Here's what I found: While there have been press reports of other protein powders containing arsenic lately and whether or not this press source might be credible, there was enough uncertainty for me to justify rejecting all other protein powders. There is only one ingredient in this pack and that is hemp powder. The complaints I've read about this brand are related to taste and yes that stops me from giving this one a 5 but. The other "thing" that most companies add to their protein powders is to enhance the flavor of their conglomerate of ingredients. The point of protein powder is to COMPLETE your diet with protein, not 101 other substances. If you choose a single-ingredient protein powder, you will experience all its properties. Hence the taste/consistency. However, I can work around any flavor issues simply by customizing my own. For example, using a small amount of additional fruit or maybe vanilla extract can make a difference. You can also skip the recommended amount and reduce by about 1/3. When using this hemp powder in my almond oil, cardamom, coconut milkshake I will use the recommended amount as it is enough to offset the presence of hemp. Almond oil is actually compatible with hemp due to the texture and flavor. However, if I plan to make a smoothie with blueberries, bananas, and sweeter fruits, I'll cut back on the hemp. The bottom line for me is this: As a vegan/vegetarian/pescetarian, whatever the reason I need extra protein, it's the protein source that matters the most. Personally, I look for the closest possible solution that Mother Nature offers, or try to get pretty damn close. To me, this is Manitoba's Hemp Pro because it's made from one ingredient: hemp powder β and nothing else. I will no longer put anything in my body that contains a variety of ingredients that I cannot easily find in nature. Oh, and let's not forget the price. For this I pay half of what Vega, Garden of Life etc. would pay.
