I moved into a house that had a 250 gallon indoor carp pond and I'm fairly new to fish care. I bought a pond vacuum and decided to vacuum it every spring and once my fish stopped eating I found I needed to do it a lot more often. I drained half the water, added conditioner and an anti-stress zim, and tested it with a freshwater kit (I should have tested it before riding it, but I didn't). After cycling it was still tested at 0.25 ammonia for 3 straight days so I added the recommended dose of AmQuel and added an ammonia alert card to the tank and the levels have been safely checked every day since - and 5 more days later . , today the fish are coming back and taking food away from me! I will be cycling a lot more often and vacuuming the tank, as well as keeping an ammonia alert card in the tank to check daily. I'm still learning but I'm glad my big pal Iceman Koi, Viper and Jester the fantail goldfish are warm enough to stay with me. Well - has it ever gotten easier to tell yellow from yellow-green? I see it in my nightmares!
