Review on ๐Ÿ“ฑ Bar Fly 4 TT - Ultimate Multi-Compatible Mount for Garmin, Polar, Wahoo, Mio, Magellan, GoPro & Light Integration by Quinton Wonsley

Feature rich but good at none of them

I had high hopes for this mount after reading about the 1/8 turn barfly mounts and the integrated GoPro mount on the bottom. However, this product did not quite live up to my expectations. Initially, assembling the product required a few tries. There are 2 layers of bolts and nuts. If you don't install in the correct order by holding the nuts and turning the bracket, you'll have to do it all over again. Nothing bad, but annoying. Next there is the alignment of the Garmin mount. This is a quarter turn mount that only rotates in one direction (right to attach, left to detach). Although there are several Garmin-like mounts in the box, they all have the same one-way quarter turn. I was really hoping for 1/8 turn. This means that if you switch between Edge and Forerunner, you'll have to realign the entire mount (you'll need to detach the camera mount to adjust the main unit mount). Then there is the camera mount. The camera mounts using a standard two-prong GoPro mount, but with a proprietary 3mm hex (GoPro thumbscrews will not fit, and the rest of the device uses a 2.5mm hex). That means: If you lose a screw or a small nut, that falls down on the other side, you need spare parts even though you have a million thumbscrews. Also, for some reason, the screw is on the side of the airbar, so I had to use a long-handled ball-end wrench to attach/detach the cameras. It is certainly not easy to change. If you think you'll need a light when you're out and about, you should probably install it before you head out and forget the GoPro. Oh, and if you want to remove the camera mount for racing, you'll need to remove the Garmin top mount again. Finally, the camera mount is slightly off-axis. Probably only a grade or 2, but very annoying. My flashlight wiggles the included rubber bands a bit to make it work, but all my GoPro shots are a bit crooked. All in all, this product does exactly what it says on the tin: it comes with lights, a GoPro, and a few computer blocks. It's plasticky but fairly strong (thickness 1.5" with GoPro mount). However, it does have some downsides mentioned above that I just don't fully understand. You should probably install this before heading out and your GoPro forgot. oh and if you want to remove the camera mount for racing you have to remove the top garmin mount again.
