First of all, it must be admitted that this is NOT a feeding machine. This is a "soft launcher". Its purpose is to throw the baseball high enough in the air for you to hit it with a bat or catch it and throw it to someone else. Once you accept it as such, it does the job pretty well. We use ours on batteries (an AC adapter is included if power is around) and the trajectory doesn't change when the batteries run low - just more pausing between steps. I found two downsides to the machine. #1 is that it only holds 8 (or so) baseballs so someone has to be on hand to keep it loaded. It's not a big problem because of #2. #2 is that the machine uses gravity to get the balls ready to be loaded into the "Tossing Ring". Sometimes baseballs get stuck and don't load properly. It also means that someone has to be on hand to keep things running. The biggest advantages are the #1 cost and the #2 use of real balls. No need to buy special balls for the car. I bought a bucket of Craigslist baseballs and softballs and off I went. In case you're wondering, no, softballs won't fit. Very bad. It turned out to be a lot of fun with the kids (which is safer than throwing for dad AND the kids). Just make sure to wear batting gloves or you'll get blisters from any punch you might do.
