I wouldn't try Smartthings without this mount. I like the small size and the performance is phenomenal. I installed them in a new house, so I wired the backhaul and placed smart things on the ceiling, right outside the door, in my office, closet, and garage. In fact, I took the SST mesh blocks into the holder and removed them many times as we considered different configurations and worked with temporary situations as the house was being completed. They worked great! The lattice blocks fit perfectly into the brackets, just like the first install! I did not use the molybdenum nuts that came with it. I also didn't use the small brackets that make up a shelf for the wall unit, so I can't comment on any of those features.
