Review on anezus Self Healing Sewing Mat: 12x18 Double Sided Cutting Board for Sewing Crafts, Scrapbooking & Fabric Projects by Ruth Ward

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy and true to size

I recently completed a curtain project where I cut all the panels with scissors which was a real hassle! I'm repairing a quilt and was looking for an easier way to cut large pieces of fabric. After reading rave reviews of self-healing PVC cutting mats and rotary knives on quilting blogs, I decided to invest in a kit. The differences between the sewing mats are visually minimal, which is why I opted for this inexpensive variant. The cutting mat arrived in perfect condition. I compared the markings on 2 rulers - both inch and correct (pictured). As some other reviewers point out, the markers are only 11 inches by 17 inches. although the rug itself is 12 x 18 inches. This is actually seen in promotional photos, so I don't think that's a reason to deduct stars. I have used this cutting mat with my Olfa rotary cutter - it's well worth investing in a quality rotary cutter and blade! - for the last month. The cutting mat still looks like new. In addition to aligning fabric, a cutting mat can be used to calibrate projected images. If you have a projector, you can project a PDF pattern onto a flat surface, calibrate the scale so the PDF inch matches the projected inch, and either trace the pattern without printing digital patterns, or the fabric directly cut when projecting onto a carpet for cutting. I've just started experimenting with this, so I'll update once I've finished the project this way.
