Tried to apply a water based stain to an unfinished wood object and was extremely disappointed with the results. Water-based stain dries quickly, so applying the stain with a rag resulted in streaky stains. Foam brushes fall apart or the stick gets punctured, resulting in too many stains in some places and too few and dripping in others. Thought there must be a way to apply the paint with a nice smooth surface. Reviewed local hardware stores and patch pads had terrible reviews. So I found them on Revain, read the reviews and decided to give it a try. So glad I did! A very simple pillow made from fabric glued to a double layer of thin foam that can be cut to any size. Well, sometimes just IS is better. These coloring pads allow me to apply the color in smooth strokes (without many drips or stretching) to get a good result without streaks the first time. Also suitable for the second layer! Since I'm using a water-based stain, I was able to rinse the pad with water and dry it for reuse. I was very pleased that the glue held and the pillow didn't fall apart so I can use it again as I have a few pieces of furniture to finish. Overall very happy with this product and would recommend it!
