I am giving the Viair 87P portable compressor four stars instead of five because it has several shortcomings. In general, however, you should be completely satisfied with the performance of the device. A compact compressor with a spare tire fits neatly in the tire of my car, so I can take it with me in the car for emergencies without wasting valuable cargo space. The compressor and the storage bag make a well-made impression. In fact, I was impressed that the Compressor is such a reliable little device. It worked well and inflated four tires to recommended. A well-machined brass hose end threads onto the tire valve stem and provides a good seal. The hose tip is easy to turn on and off with bare fingers. The on/off switch switches smoothly. CONS - MANAGEMENT Unnecessarily difficult to read: The 87P compressor is rated at 60psi but has a 120psi gauge making it unnecessarily difficult to read. I also have a Viair 88P supercharger rated at 120psi. Both 87P and 88P use the same pressure gauge. It's obvious to me that the manufacturer puts a 120psi gauge on a 60psi compressor, so they don't have to have two different gauges at the factory. Here, simple production/cost savings take precedence over benefit and usability for the customer. CONS - HOSE TOO SHORT: The built-in 3ft air hose is too short for practical use unless the compressor is used with a small vehicle. However, additional 6ft hose extensions are available. Bought 2 expansions. The extension hoses easily attach to the compressor's 3-foot hose and to each other for a total hose length of 15 feet. The compressor works well with a 15 foot hose. However, the extension hoses are rubber, and the 3-foot hose built into the compressor is protected by a thick cloth sleeve. It is obvious to me that the compressor's built-in hose is so short because the device fits into a storage bag. I see this as another clear example of convenience and cost reduction taking precedence over customer/user value. The extension hoses do not fit in the storage bag with the compressor. ERROR - FOG LIGHT: The compressor has a built-in light, but it is not particularly bright. CONS - CHEAP CLIPS FOR HOLDING INFLATION PUMPS: 3 inflation spikes included. The compressor is attached to the base with plastic clips that attach to the base of the compressor. One of the clips was broken in the box when I received it. I removed all the tips from the clamps and put them in a plastic bag. With the plastic clips at the base (which I consider a design flaw) the tabs will inevitably pop out and be lost if the compressor is placed on a hard surface or if it is bumped even slightly. Also, the plastic clips are not what I find durable.
