Review on Spyder Auto CP 521B Intake Filter by Julio Montano

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pipes and filters are excellent, cheap kit

Bought and fitted to my '03 4 cylinder Tiburon. Aside from the fun of removing the resonator box, it's pretty easy to install if you're a little mechanically inclined. Overall the filter and tubes are fantastic. Rubber connectors are decent too. The supplied clamps for attaching the rubber are very cheap and break quickly. The rubber breather hose also fell apart before I could start the car. My advice: buy this Spyder intake and then buy your own clamps and bleeder hose (regular 8-12" hose) for it from Auto Zone / Pep Boys etc. (clamps are $2-$3 for 2 packs, and you'll need 3 packs or so) Also, don't forget the small vent hose clamps and the vent hose itself. Don't trust those that come with them. If you get tubes from that air intake, clamps from the store, and a little know-how, you can get an awesome air intake in your tib. Pros: Car sounds cool when accelerating (at full throttle, not always) Looks amazing under the hood Improved acceleration, especially at 5000rpm in 3rd gear Allows you to lift 20 pounds in bulky, heavy stock Now I can see everything in my engine The compartment is quite easy to install (if you are at least an amateur mechanic) CHEAP! Pipes are pipes, and they all let air through. Why spend $250 on Injen or a famous brand to do the same? If you are not actively participating in competitions and races, there is no point in spending more. Cons: Cheap clamps and vent hose ($15 to replace at dealership) Owner's manual has no pictures (although YouTube is great) Won't fit through a standard fender hole (at least my I-4 doesn't), but you can easily bend the metal a bit to match it. In general, buy this air intake. As long as you don't expect 100% plug and play, everything is fine. There will be some muscle involved, but that's the point!
