Review on πŸ“¦ Flirc Raspberry Pi 4 Case (Silver): A Stylish and Durable Protective Shell for Your Device by Ron Mohammed

Definitely NOT suitable as a CPU heatsink

Although this case looks snazzy and almost completely covers the Raspberry Pi 4B, it is completely useless as a CPU heatsink. When I first opened the packaging and looked inside this case I was disappointed to see the ejector pin relief almost in the middle of the most critical area of this case. This area is for physical contact with the processor installed on the RPi board. A good 20% of the available space is lost. To make matters worse, there is ABSOLUTELY NO PHYSICAL CONTACT between the processor and this case, as there is an air gap of 1 millimeter plus! I'm not a fan of thermal tape and was planning on using thermal paste instead, but decided to give this tape a try. Realizing there was a large air gap, I left the backing on the supplied tape and installed the board into the case, only to have the tape fall out through the air gap! Of course, this was just a test setup. I then used a caliper and caliper to measure the gap and found it to be 1.194 millimeters. The same measurement was achieved on the second case I bought. I would NOT recommend buying this case as most likely it does nothing other than trap heat inside and your Raspberry Pi 4B will end up throttling to stay cool.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Hard to say
