Garbage. Shame on the Original Kobalt Dual Drive #0407197

First released in 2011, the Original Kobalt Dual Drive has been an invaluable and absolutely essential hand tool in my toolbox since I first bought it . To my great dismay, the Transportation Security Administration confiscated it from my carry-on luggage last week on my way to Boston for an out-of-state job. Apparently my electrician's scissors are fine, but a screwdriver without bits is a deadly weapon. Despite being devastated, they literally closed the door of my plane and called my name while I was frantically trying to put my shoes back on because I had time. I would walk out of the gate, get back on the shuttle bus to Terminal A, take the elevator back to the fifth floor garage where the long term parking is located and put it back in my van and then go through all the hassles. repeated pre-fit procedures just to save the thing. That's how much I love the original 2-speed cobalt double-drive. I figured I could buy a more up to date model though and lo and behold, right here on Revain, the current 6x double drive speed! WHAT WHAT WHAT?! 6x speed?! IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. OR AT LEAST VERY INCREDIBLE! Well that's all you wanted to say! I pressed BUY NOW so hard I broke my phone's screen protector! he arrived today. The first thing you'll notice is that unlike the original model's steel directional switch, the current model has a flimsy plastic switch that's hard to find. Then move on to the mechanism itself. I don't understand why it's ratchets. The dual-drive ratchet offers no additional benefit. The original double drive didn't work. Second, I immediately understood how they achieve the claimed 6x speeds; smaller, thinner gears. The moment I tried to use this the gears immediately started grinding and sticking. again and again. It's rubbish and Kobalt should be ashamed to put its name on it, but branding it a double-drive tarnishes the good name and reputation of the original product. DO NOT BUY THIS. If you can get your hands on one, I highly recommend getting the original Double-Drive. I found one for $60 upon delivery, and yes, that's triple what it originally cost in 2011 and more than double the current model. every penny See my photos. The first is for the current double drive mechanism and its junk mechanism, the second is for the original double drive mechanism, and the third is for the one you really need.
