Review on πŸš— Alphasonik HSW208 Hyper 200 Series: Powerful 8" Car Subwoofer with 600 Watts RMS and High Grade Magnet by Brett Tierney

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good sound, a bit loud

I installed this subwoofer in a 3/4" MFD box, which is a little less than a cubic foot, but assumes an oblong shape. The box was custom made to to fit in a Cherokee (see XJ pod just made at home for the 10". I then stuffed the box with polyester and hooked it up to an Infinity 1300a (200 watts RMS into 4 ohms). I'm not sure sure if it's polyester or if the box is attached directly to the frame, but the first time I turned it on I just set the gain to 4V (like my components) and before I lined it up the Bass from "All" "Alanis Morissettes I really don't want to" will make the whole cabin shake. I actually felt the impact through my seat 6-8 feet away. I adjusted the levels and now am gt the gain for the sub is about 1/3 (from 3/4 for 4V rating) plus HU set to -6dB Black Sabbath's "Thunder Underground" is well balanced and the vocals clearly overpower the bass The D-12's "Rap Game". actually makes my little jeep twitch at bass so much that when I turn on the subwoofer I feel pressure against my skin (like I'm in a small room and closing the door quickly). On the other hand, Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" has a smooth and crisp bassline without an overwhelming hum. In addition, ELO "In the Hall of the Mountai n King" adds a new dimension and my Nightwish collection comes to life. The subwoofer crosses at 100 Hz in the HU and the 6.5-inch drivers cross at 80 Hz. The transition is smooth and almost seamless. This subwoofer sounds very clean with a set of Infinity Kappa Series speakers. The response has also improved somewhat. That, or am I just getting used to it. Anyway, I'm still very happy with it. buzz. No speakers at all but the DJ who mixed it just lowered his voice an octave or so with no subsonic filter. Not made with real bass in mind.
