Review on Maximize Indoor Air Circulation with Suncourt Door Frame Fan - White by Beth Brooks

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Did it for three years; Here's how I fixed it

I use this fan for a very specific purpose: to remove moisture from a small indoor space (no windows). For that it works great. The noise level seemed acceptable to me since I use it in 30 minute bursts, not for hours. Three years after buying it, it became quite noisy and hardly moved any air. I assumed it was the engine that had become rough after years of dampness. So I took it apart (maybe it's cheap but at least they used real screws!). The engine turned out to be fine; The problem was with the fan blades. The fan blades are a single block of plastic that fits over the motor shaft. It's just a friction fit: nothing really sticks there. And I found that the plastic had a tear that went right down the middle. The tear went through the hole so the fit was no longer tight hence the noise and poor performance. It's a really silly design considering they didn't even have to add extra detail to avoid the issue. Take a look at your microwave motor to see what I mean. In any case, I had Bondic (also sourced from Revain) on hand. Here's what I did, YMMV: 1) Disconnect the cable and open the case. Move the fan blades. 2) Apply Bondic in a line to the crack, especially near the mounting hole. 3) While squeezing the crack, hit it with a UV lamp to cure it. 4) Install the knives on the motor shaft. . He must be tight. 5) Fill the top of the mounting hole with some more Bondic. Move the blades up and down to get some Bondic seeping down a bit (but not all the way to the engine). The blades should now be attached to the motor shaft. Yes, I know it's plastic and will break again over time, but for now it's working like new. Or at least when it was new to me; Other reviewers complaining about noise may have unknowingly cracked fan blades.
