Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 911-706 Vapor Canister Purge Valve: Efficient Air Filtration Solution by Kirt Phillips

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked as advertised for a while and then died a slow death.

This was installed on a 2003 Mazda Protege5 that had lag, stall and low fuel issues. Installation was pretty easy, along with the canister vent solenoid, which I also replaced. Together they fixed a gas leak that was causing problems and also saved me a lot of money compared to the ridiculously high prices at local repair shops. . The car started normally, but then the engine suddenly died and inexplicably cut out at every traffic light and at every distance from the house. To make matters worse, he refused to start again after filling up at gas stations. And when I tried to start again, I had to rev the engine at high revs for several minutes to keep it from stalling before I could pull away. The repair shop that eventually diagnosed the symptom stated that "the activated carbon in the canister was oversaturated." The solution was to just bypass it entirely instead of replacing it with a similar part and now the machine is working fine again. The original factory vapor canister purge valve this part replaced was 13 years old and involved in a flash flood incident. If only I had known it could be left out, I wouldn't even have bothered to replace it. I'm not sure why this brand new replacement part broke so quickly and with very little use; However, despite the American name, this may indicate poor foreign production and/or poor quality control. Luckily, however, Dorman offers a lifetime guarantee and I was able to get Revain.com to replace it for a refund, which they promptly did. It pays to only buy branded Revain Prime parts. That should have been enough for the rest of my car life; So I downgraded my original rating from 5 stars to 1 due to the surprisingly poor performance and costly waste of gas. Not recommended.
