Plugs into a 12V power source, not the wall. It obviously works great in a car, but that's not what I bought it for. I bought it for emergencies when the power was off for a long time. We have a generator but it wouldn't be practical to run it all day if the power is out for a long period of time so we charge a large 100Ah gel battery when it's running and then power all ours devices with electricity. on it until it works. I was concerned that the quiescent current might be high, but it's REALLY low. It was 2mA and the efficiency seems to be 85% when you measure the input and output power. Great product, thanks!
