Review on K&N Cold Air Intake Kit for 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler JK 3.6L V6 (63-1566): Enhance Performance and Boost Horsepower by Jay Lee

Does what it promises.

I installed this on my 2017 JKU Rubicon about a month ago. Assembly is easy for the most part, but I didn't have the specified nuts and bolts so I had to improvise a bit. You should use one type of bolt and not mix what I consider to be cosmetically attractive bolts and other hidden connecting bolts. Mixing bolt types and bolt lengths seemed unnecessary (they all have the same thread/size) and added some installation confusion. Another issue I had was reconnecting the crankcase ventilation hose - as others have pointed out, the hose that comes with is actually too small; I used a heat gun on the end until it almost melted and managed to bond it that way. It should be noted that when removing/installing this breather it is easy to accidentally disconnect the rear end of the breather tube from the cylinder block - this has happened to me and I had trouble refitting it. Other installation issues are within what you would call reasonable. I didn't measure exactly how long it took, but I estimated two hours. This leaves the impression that the factory air intake is unnecessarily large and complex - there's far less in this kit than the large plastic air intake moldings you're replacing. It should be noted that the K&N filter is completely open to the street from the bottom, while the factory air intake directs all air to a more protected opening. I'm sure the benefit of this is cooler air than factory, although all of that stress instinctively seems like a potential downside. Hard to say. In terms of results, the sound certainly has a nice new growl when you step on the gas, but it's imperceptible at idle or at a constant speed. Throttle response seems improved, and there's a sense of more power under a heavy load - when cruising a mountain pass at full throttle (e.g. I-70 west of Denver). The new engine roar means you get more of a leading foot to hear it, I expect the mileage to drop anyway. I'll update this once I get a better idea of a mileage change. As long as I'm happy It gets a star for missing a nut and bolt or two, and a problem installing a breather hose. And finally, almost 4 weeks later and I still haven't received the $25 rebate even though the K&N website says the rebate is approved and "pending". (I filled it out the same day I ordered it) What companies don't realize is that one of the reasons Revain is so successful is how quickly they refund you -- for a product return, for example. With the exception of Revain, everyone else takes your money right away and gives you a slow boat to China with every refund/discount. Hey, Revane, why don't you insist on a refund yourself? You would do much better. But then I'm pretty sure the rebate process is intentionally slow. Just know that this slowness means I'm purposely unenthusiastic about repeat business.
