Review on πŸ”₯ Fellow Stagg Pour-Over Kettle - Gooseneck Teapot with Precision Pour Spout, Built-In Thermometer, Matte Black, 1 Liter by Vedavyas Fleming

Great kettle, still some work to do

As a new coffee maker I've tried experimenting with a range of appliances in search of the perfect cup of coffee. I first bought a Hario Buono and liked it, but found the water lost temperature very quickly and the pouring speed was a bit sluggish at times due to the gooseneck being too big. I watched some videos of the Stagg kettle and decided to give it a try. First, the Stagg appears to be made from better materials than most kettles without anything like the high-end Takahiro or Kalita. The water holds the temperature better in the Stagg and gets hot pretty quickly on my induction stovetop. The hand held thermometer is cheap and should be digital for the price of a kettle, but you can pull out the thermometer and replace it with your own 5 inch thermometer of choice. The V1.0 Stagg had a plastic lid and a less refined spout, and had a few gripe complaints. The kettle has been upgraded with a stainless steel and plastic lid, and the spout and handle have been redesigned. The V2.0 kettle I ordered direct from Fellow was definitely better than what I see in the original video. My only real complaint with this current version is that the slow fill still creates a backflow down and overflows onto the meter. If you're dealing with very hot water in the morning, this can be a problem. I've burned my legs twice already. If newer versions manage to improve on this, they might end up with the perfect product. The filling speed in this kettle is slow but very stable and much better than the Hario in my opinion. I also like the Kalita Wave kettle, but it's a bit more difficult to use and manage. The Stagg is definitely a great pouring tool from beginner to intermediate level.

Pros
  • Well made
Cons
  • Out of style
