A traditional block gives you a lot more knives in less space, but being able to view/visually select the knife you want is great. The key to this block is that it has both powerful magnets and protection to prevent them from falling and injuring yourself and more importantly (if that happens) your body. However, this comes at a price, as cleaning the inner surfaces of the plastic is not easy and without care or disassembly can scratch or damage the block of wood. It's also best placed in a position that doesn't require long reach, as both magnets and plastic may make it easier to pull out if the knife is drawn. So there are some tradeoffs. It looks great, it's easy to use, you see your knives and how they're stored (ever wondered how many things are in those grooves of a regular knife block?), but it has its quirks and isn't very efficient. wise. i still like it
