Never buy Coralife replacement jerry cans again

I almost bought these and am very glad I did. I have a Coralife Pure-Flo II 50 GPD reverse osmosis system for my freshwater aquariums and just cracked my third canister. Coralife canisters have a serious design flaw that results in them having a weak thread base. It's almost enough just looking at a funny item to break one, and you really have to flip it around to get a good seal, adding extra stress to an already weak area. I ordered another replacement before seeing these. Two complete installations for the price of one empty Coralife canister. I figured they couldn't be any worse and I got two so I canceled straight away and ordered them which also had the added benefit of Prime Shipping. I was expecting them to be fake and a direct match to existing tops. Not even close. Coralife outperforms every inch, from cap to can. There is more pulp in the lids, the threaded portion of the canister is thicker and has a larger O-ring on the gasket. After seeing the difference I installed both and am planning to buy another one. The inlet and outlet fittings were a 1-1 match and the mounting holes matched perfectly. The only precaution when replacing Pure-Flo canisters with these is the DI cartridge. The large white sealing washer at the top is too thick for the canister to be fully unscrewed. Luckily they popped out and had a random o-ring with the same ID as the original washer and a wall thickness slightly greater than the depth of the washer well. Due to the design of the top caps they have an internal beveled sleeve around the exhaust stem that protrudes further than the OEM Coralife. By using the o-ring I was able to get a good seal on the top of the cartridge and screw the canister into place. Unless you're a random parts hoarder, your best bet is to take the cartridge to Ace or some other place that has a large selection of loose o-rings and try until you find the right one. I would post the measurements but I'm already making water. Excellent product at half the price. What else can you say.

Pros
  • Replacement under sink water filter
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something
