Review on πŸ“ Raspberry Pi 3 B Model Board by Leon Johnsson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An impressively versatile mini computer. Nothing for beginners.

This is an impressive mini computer. For those familiar with computer hardware and Linux, this presents some great opportunities. From stopping annoying ads (pi-hole DNS) to having your own VoIP server/PBX (Asterisk with or without FreePBX) to a cheap marine navigator + AIS (add BU-353 GPS and RTL-SDR USB dongles (add to this, save below deck/off the water and stream AIS and GPS backups over Wi-Fi to an Android/OpenCPN navigator on deck) before setting up your own media server (multiple options) you can easily create yours own server or set up your own servers to suit your needs, and all at a very reasonable price. I haven't even mentioned the possibilities of automation/robotics. I wouldn't recommend the Pi to absolute beginners as there is a non-trivial learning curve here, especially if you're just buying the board. For beginners, a kit that includes an SD card with the operating system preinstalled is more suitable. For experienced people it is good to buy only one board. When creating a partition/image of a new SD card, note that standard OS images can contain multiple partitions. So if you try to write an image to an existing partition instead of overwriting the entire card, you'll wonder why you only see a red light and no other activity :). If you don't see the files on the card after taking the picture, you need to try again. Hope that helps!

Cons
