Revainrating 5 out of 5

High tension when using pilot holes (7/32 ")

Using 3", 4", 5" and 6" to fix my 700 sq ft. ft (25 yrs) ) roof deck at high stress and stress points, especially when pulling sister deck and roof frame to 6 x 6 joists (large washer head helps a lot). I always punch all the screw holes (takes longer but doesn't split). I use a 7/32 drill bit for these screws; I found 13/64" too strong and 15/64" too loose - I rotated the pair while testing to find the correct diameter, but 7/32" worked perfectly for me. It pulled single, sister - (and triple) boards together, some crowned) to a perfectly flat surface.I understand that screws are self-tapping/drilling, but in my experience pilot holes virtually eliminate the possibility of splitting and allow the threads to perform a near-perfect concentric spiral cut to achieve. .

Pros
  • Wood Screws
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something
