Put on the plastic caps first. Position the main center bracket with the two square holes UP and insert the two long carriage bolts face down into these holes. If four extensions are added, no countersink round holes will connect to no countersink round holes on another member. All bolt and nut heads fit countersunk holes EXCEPT TWO HOLES IN THE MAIN BRACKET which attaches to the vehicle's 2" stud. Flange. Not rigid, but confusing. Lasts 45 minutes. Great stand for the money and protrudes well out of the car so it doesn't scratch the car.
