I purchased this item to quickly check the pH level in my hot tub. I unpacked it, read the instructions and started turning it on. Nothing was on the display. I found that the batteries that came with it were dead. After replacing them with new batteries ($5 BTW) the ad appeared. I then decided to calibrate the device according to the instructions, which included two packets of chemicals. I dropped them in 250ml distilled water but they solidified and didn't dissolve until I crushed the crystals (apparently without the anti-caking agent). To add to the injury, the calibration indicator never appeared after being held for 5 seconds and then released. The good news is that the pH reading on the meter usually matches the test readings (4.01 and 6.86). Since the precision required isn't that great for my purposes, I'll try to use this (fingers crossed) without fallback. Please consider your needs and the level of accuracy required before purchasing this item.
