Expensive but worth it

If you have a high volume HVAC system (i.e. moves more air than a typical builder rating system for a typical single family home) and you want something significantly better than most of what you'll find at Ace Find hardware or Walmart that doesn't need to be replaced as often, any of the filters in this series are worth trying. so) or have just moved to a new location and are noticing a lot of dust and dirt in the air ducts under or behind the bars, this is a good place to start. Please note that due to the cloth-like design, they put a little more stress on your fan and motor, especially fixed speed models. So make sure your filter is rated for this type of filter, otherwise you might get a maintenance headache after a while. You will find that less material is collected. I use a rule of thumb: when the entire surface is covered with gray dust a few millimeters thick, I change it. It will almost look like a "blanket" over the filter media. Ultimately, you should be able to replace it every 4-6 months depending on the air quality in your area and the amount of paint dust in your home. If you have really good air quality and don't use the HVAC 12 months out of the year, you can even stretch it to 6-8 months. While they are designed to do that, I wouldn't leave the filter on for 12 months unless the design is very clean / very low dust and movement of people and pets. They are definitely not meant to be replaced every month and are priced accordingly.
