Review on πŸ”ͺ Staedtler Metal Double Hole Sharpener with Tub: Premium Quality for Precise Pencil Sharpening by Lori Aguirre

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The labels peel off so you can see the work. There are no spare blades.

I hesitated with the purchase because the actual operation of the device was not clearly evident. But I have one of the metal sharpeners that backs this up, and while it's clearly only a mid-range sharpener, it's usually good enough. my KUM machine's lid slams from accumulated chips if I don't empty it often). Plus for the $4 I paid it's actually cheaper than buying the metal sharpener separately. If I didn't like the container, I could disassemble it and get a usable sharpener for less (aside from time and effort) than buying it individually. Since replacement blades aren't readily available (boo!), this is also the cheapest method I know of to get replacement blades - with an environmental penalty for those of us who believe in reusing, don't replace them. find the labels peel off with little effort, resulting in a much more functional sharpener that's significantly more attractive! I've been using Staedtler products for decades (I used to still use 2mm wire holders) but I love seeing their billboards on a product, especially if it detracts from the usefulness of that product. Product. It still says "Staedtler" on the bottom in case I ever forget. In use, the sharpener is satisfactory. The first pencil I tried to sharpen broke the shaft and caused a difficult jam, but the next three sharpened very well with only a slight chip around the tip of the wood. After a while, the shavings tend to block the view of the blade while you work, but temporary respite can be obtained by removing the tip of the sharpener and using the inside of the sharpener to press down the accumulated shavings a little. At least you don't have to immediately look for a place to empty. Fans of How to Sharpen Pencils: A Practical and Theoretical Treatise on the Artisan Craft of Pencil Sharpening by David Rees may despair at the damage to the chips, but I doubt they'll still use this sharpener for an aesthetic shave. So good value for money but annoying that the labels are peeling off and no replacement blades available. I will say 4 stars without tags, three with.

Pros
  • Lid with fuse
Cons
