Wicks That Work - Parts and Accessories

These wicks are for the Vornado mod. 40 is my last attempt to get this humidifier working. I have tried almost all of Vornado's replacement and original wicks and have all been disappointed. At some point I believe Vornado changed the manufacturer or material for the wicks and they stopped working properly. They took in no water or only for a short time. Most problems with this type of humidifier are related to water quality. I use softened water instead of filtered/reverse osmosis water to remove contaminants. This is the best water quality you can get in your home. For these wicks, I found them to be slightly wider than the originals at 1 inch. At first I thought this was a problem, but then I realized that the hole for air entry through the wicks is trapezoidal, 1 inch wider at the top than at the bottom. And these wicks fill that space better. If you don't have all the air going through the wick it's really inefficient and creates less humidified air. These wicks work far better than any other I've tried on bacterial growth. About 1/2 cup of bleach per gallon of water in a small 12" x 10" x 4" plastic pot. Soak for an hour and rinse until the bleach smell is minimal. I have found that the water can wick out with being squeezed out. I also use the same mixture of bleach and water to clean the humidifier bowl and water jugs. This process using these wicks has given me the best results with this humidifier.
