While the "light" of the original 700 series charging platform was still on, my Roomba would not charge. After 4 years I decided it was the battery. Ordered a "universal" lithium battery as it had better reviews than the real Roomba battery (iRobot). Strange but okay. The lithium battery has not been charged. I could plug an old charging station directly into a Roomba with a regular battery and it would "light up" like it was charging. It works, but only for a short time and never charges on the charging station. When I planned to return the lithium battery and order the iRobot battery, I praised the "more modern" charging platform. It was lighter, didn't have a high power block adapter etc. So I ordered a charging station. Guess what? The normal lithium battery still hasn't been charged at the base. after installing an "empty" original Roomba battery and using a new charging station. My Roomba works perfectly. So it was NOT the battery. It was the cargo deck. Lesson learned. I may end up buying a new battery, but I just got new life with my original battery and now I know NOT to ORDER a universal iRobot compatible battery.
