Avoid Nest Protect (2nd gen) - Save money, time and peace of mind

READ 1-star reviews - they're more reliable than 4 or 5-star reviews. A 3-pack of 2nd generation NEST Protect devices released in June 2017. Following NEST's instructions, all devices set up flawlessly - connected to my 2.4GHz WiFi and connected to the internet. With the iPhone app I was able to see my NEST thermostat and 3 NEST Protects. The devices worked flawlessly until early 2019, when all of the Protect devices (and my NEST thermostat!) kept disconnecting from the 2.4GHz WiFi and never reconnected. Protect devices refused to reconnect to Wi-Fi and I had to reset 10 times. to finally get a connection again. But the devices shut down after less than 24 hours. Followed all NEST instructions on website - but devices kept failing. After 15+ hours of troubleshooting and technical support, I've finally given up on Protect.Protect devices that rely on firmware and software updates. creates too many problems and risks. for detecting fire/smoke/carbon monoxide. I don't put my family at risk with questionable technology. Bottom line: I don't think Protect devices stay connected to WiFi or the internet, let alone each other (no WiFi mesh). And based on other Revain reviews (read the 1 star reviews) I believe the NEST Protect devices (2nd Gen) are based on a flawed design and are not fit for life and death for serious production use are.
