The interface remained after installation. Tighten with a wrench, I would never hit them if it wasn't necessary. The included wrench is handy and has 19mm and 21mm 6 point hex templates. Love that they are steel, I've had friends with aluminum grommets that pop out easily and disappear quickly. I will let you know if I have trouble changing tires.
