I already have a Canon 10-18mm but when I saw this lens on sale at a very good price I bought it. Tokina is well known for its low cost and extremely wide range of lenses. Quality of workmanship As usual, Tokina does not skimp on the construction. The good thing about it is true tactile manual focus with hard stops at the ends. The autofocus is fast enough in different lighting conditions. Distortion and aberrations are pleasingly minimal and on par with other good qualities in this category. The wide end has some pretty nice curve distortion that's easy to fix. I didn't notice any significant chromatic aberrations. Sharpness Wide open looks pretty gaudy and corners and edges generally look pretty good. At 1 f-stop it gets better. Absence? Ultra wide angle lenses are usually overlooked in the stabilization department. Some may find it unnecessary, but since video is as common with these lenses as photography, the stabilization is great. The lack of it might not be a disadvantage depending on usage, and more and more cameras are being released with sensor-based stabilization. The extra reach at the long end makes this lens more versatile, as it hits a fairly standard focal range, but a slower aperture hurts low-ISO cameras. The Canon 10-18 is fantastic but slower on the long end but has IS and is very small and light, great for handhelds, gimbals and gimbals. As always, choose according to your needs and budget!
