Review on Munchkin Extra Wide and Tall Baby Gate, Hardware Mounted Safety Gate for Stairs, Hallways and Doors, Expands from 33" to 56" Wide, Metal, White by Kristine Schmidt

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Poor hinge material failed twice in six months. :(

Update 2: Downgraded to 1 star because the lower pivot I replaced less than a month ago is already failing badly. See pic. This is less than a month of careful use. This gate has been its great if the swing arms and pins were metal but that plastic just can't handle a gate that heavy. The broken gate cannot be removed from the main gate so a full replacement would be required to fix it.Unfortunately I was too busy to return it earlier and now I'm 3 days past my return date. :'(Strong, safe and smooth action, with some modifications. I've tried a few gates on my weird metal railings and these are by far the best for my setup Since my railing was metal I tied a 4x4 post to one side and some 1x2 gates to the other It was a tricky setup but de r latch worked with a lot of friction when I did lano. So I put the latch down where it snags (highlighted in green in the photo) and added some WD-40 and now the action is smooth, like clockwork, and I can easily open it with one hand. Finally, I glued a piece of fabric (grey in the picture) to the jingling dots, and now it's very quiet. This is perfect now as my 3 year old can close the latch but not open it. Highly recommended for wide areas at the top of stairs if you prioritize safety and don't mind spending time changing it. In my opinion it's a lot safer than other models I've tried that only hold on to the tip and rely on tight tolerances of cheap plastic parts that are bound to fail.
