This is a good compact chair. I have no experience with other rocking chairs so I can't say how they compare to other types. Rocking is provided by a pancake-shaped "cushion" made of thick, flexible plastic that is partially inflated with air. It's like sitting on a durable hot air balloon or water ball. I like the slight rocking and overall it's a pleasure to sit in the chair. The stool can be adjusted in height from 19 to 25 inches and the height adjustment works well. I deducted a star because the stool is uncomfortable to sit in shorts due to the all-round zipper. the seat together with the thick edge of the rocking cushion. It digs into the skin of my legs. But if you're not wearing shorts, this shouldn't be a problem. Someone mentioned that you can remove the rocking pad if you don't like the rocking as there is another pad underneath. That's true, but the other cushion is very thin and light, so in this form it's only slightly more comfortable than a hardwood stool.
