Shark Bite works great

I have been using their fittings since 2012 to replace the hot water tank barrier or add barriers to zones. Look at my photos and you will see how little water flows through a ¼ inch refrigerator saddle valve. In the pipe I removed for the tee, I drilled a hole for comparison. I also bought a quarter turn check valve. Just unplug the pipe, make a good mark on the 1" insert, and you're good to go.
