Very convenient. Easy to set up, easy to use. Ideal for digitizing.

This is a review of Magic Wand Portable Scanners for Documents, Photos, Old Photos, Receipts, 900 DPI, Scan A4 Color Pages in 3 Seconds, 16GB Memory Card Included, MUNBYN Photo Scanners for computers, notebooks. I am a writer and was given this scanner to scan almost 20 years of handwritten journals that contain the basis for many of my books. This is my first time using a handheld scanner, although it really doesn't take me long to get used to it. This little stick scanner isn't heavy and it's not hard to work with. It produces clear, high-quality scans. I use the medium resolution setting and the scans are very sharp. Here are the key points that caught my eye: 1. Your document should lie flat when scanned. This forced me to take out all the pages from each magazine to lay them flat. If you try to scan from a book, the scanner will crop most of the inside margins and sentences. I couldn't find a way to work around this. In the YouTube video (search MUNBYN on YouTube) showing how the scanner works, you can see two marks on the scanner that mark the edges of the scanned area. The quick start guide that came with the scanner lists the URL to download the free scanner software on your laptop and the instructions say that you should NOT update it during installation. Mine came with a mini CD but I don't have a drive for it so I was glad to find this link. And for what it's worth, I use Windows 10 and this software integrates seamlessly with no additional configuration on my part. 2. You need to move the scanner slowly. If you move too fast, a red light will flash to warn you. Because of this I had to rescan some pages.3. If you're scanning a lot of pages that need to be in a certain order, like I do with my magazines, scan them in that order and load the images from the scanner all at once. Like most scanners, this scanner names the scan IMG0001, IMG0002, etc. and there doesn't seem to be a way to override or change this. If you download some of them and then start scanning again before you've scanned the entire project (or the journal in my case), you'll have to rename a bunch of them. In hindsight I wish I had numbered the pages of my journal before I start and I plan to number subsequent journals so I can tell when a page is missing and if I have it in the correct order. Have enough AA batteries ready when scanning a large project. I scanned about 50 pages before I had to change the batteries. Maybe the first batteries I put in weren't fully charged (the scanner didn't come with batteries), I didn't test them before using them, or maybe I'm just being slow and that caused the batteries to drain are. I'll update this review when I get a good idea of how many pages I can consistently scan with a fresh set of AA batteries. All in all I think this little scanner is a very handy tool and I'm glad I bought it. Highly recommended.
