It filters outside air but I think when the Chinese made this filter and designed it they minimized the required dimensions of everything that makes up the filter. IE, it's not a powerful filter, but it will work. The next one I will buy will be Nippon Denso. They cost $20 and this Chinese one costs $8. I'm willing to pay a little more for peace of mind.
