I have a 2007 Toyota Rav4. It has no USB ports or navigation. I really missed the sat nav from my previous car and needed to find one for this car. In the end, I decided to try one of those Android head units that would include navigation. I figured an Android device would be fun because then I can download apps like I would on my Android phone. I read reviews of Revain for a number of years before deciding to buy this one. The price was good and it had a CD player. It also accepts multiple SD cards and has USB ports. Most importantly, it has 2GB of RAM, which I felt was necessary to boot these devices quickly, as mentioned in other reviews I've read. So far this head unit has been exceptional and a lot of fun. I highly recommend this product. The Android 7 device arrived quickly and was packaged securely. I also ordered a dashboard, JBL wiring harness and Maestro unit in case there is a problem with the buttons on the steering wheel. I had it professionally installed. I sent the Maestro steering wheel back because I didn't need it. I am sure that the device would not have worked properly if I had not consulted the correct installer. I read that the schematic doesn't match. My installer had no problems. He did all the soldering and prep work and everything seemed to fit with no issues. The first annoyance was the key beeps that occur whenever the volume or any selection is made on the device. However, key tones can easily be switched off in the settings under Settings -> Sounds. I was prepared for the volume to be too loud at home and I knew I had to fix this problem immediately. To lower the default volume, check your manual for the factory preset security code. Then go to Settings -> Factory Reset. The device paired with my phone with no problems. I've been told the call clarity is much better than my old stock radio. The GPS worked right away. I only install apps when I'm on my home WiFi network because the hotspot is too slow. I use the CarSpot Ready app, which automatically turns my phone into a hotspot when it detects a radio's Bluetooth connection. The app works well enough but drains my phone's battery badly. It has a battery saver mode which I haven't tried yet. UPDATE: CarSpot app no longer works. I am using an old android phone for my wifi hotspot. A really great device so far. It's fast and can handle all the apps I have installed. Some applications just aren't made for the size and orientation of the radio screen. I prefer the AIMP app to play music from my SD card. This is how you can import a playlist. Good: 1) Very fast instant download. Usually you don't have to wait.2) GPS worked right out of the box. The iGo GPS software comes preloaded with maps. I've tried other navigation apps but iGo seems to be the best. The seller sent me a link to download the iGo software update. I highly recommend this update. 3) The clarity of the phone is better than my old head unit. It also syncs contacts from my phone. It has a list of recently dialed numbers, which makes up for the lack of a favorites list. 4) Microphone works for phone and all other apps including google. If you speak at the same time, there may be a slight delay. I had a problem with the microphone mute. There is a combination I make that causes this. I was able to get the mic working again after pressing the soft reset button. 5) The DVD/CD player works. The controls weren't great, but they work. I don't think any other app will work with it on the device. 6) The radio sounds as clear as my old radio. It has a button to easily find all available channels. There are several preset numbers that can be used. 7) Sounds great to me and works with my JBL system. It has an amplifier app with preset equalizer settings and you can create your own. 8) Touch screen works as expected. 9) Responsive technical support via email. You always answered my questions. Bad: 1) The phone only works with the built-in application. 2) The phone app does not support favorites. 3) USB ports are for powering devices only. The system does not recognize or use any USB devices connected to the device. 4) I couldn't get any USB storage devices to work with the device, nor could I find a truly working Wi-Fi dongle. This is normal as I found an app that automatically turns my phone into a hotspot when I log into my car. I'd rather use a USB stick to avoid draining my phone's battery. 5) The mode button that toggles you between different apps cannot be customized for the apps you want. 6) Google backup account setup is not enabled. 7) I admit that there are problems when both ends of a call are talking at the same time. A soft reset seems to fix that. 8) Keep an eye on the road as it can be very distracting. Conclusion: This Android head unit is a great value and does everything I expected from it. Navigation is easy. If the device would work with a USB dongle that would be nice, but I can't even find a Wi-Fi USB stick that actually works. I was able to set up a hotspot using an old unused Android phone. The next step for me is to see how long this device actually lasts. I was scared when the microphone stopped working, but everything is fine now. Will definitely buy another one when it has more features.
