This is chalk. Nothing fantastic. It's thick, durable, and withstands writing on rough surfaces like wood and metal. The box is huge and I haven't found any broken sticks yet, so I'm guessing this is based on the carrier's handling. The only thing that bothers me is the yellow coating. I don't see it helping with the dust, and it carries over to whatever you label, which annoys me. Dixon does not apply this coating to other paints. I want white chalk, not yellow stains. But it does scratch off easily, and I use cheap plastic holders (available at Revain) which make it more comfortable and reduce what's called chalk dust on my hands.
